Northeast Ohio Crime Gun Intelligence Center

Combining ballistic evidence with intelligence analysis to reduce firearm-related violence across Northeast Ohio

The Northeast Ohio Crime Gun Intelligence Center (NEOCGIC) is a regional, multi-agency initiative that supports law enforcement investigations involving firearm-related crimes. By combining advanced forensic technology, intelligence analysis, and coordinated information sharing, the NEOCGIC helps investigators identify shooters, connect related gun crimes, and develop investigative leads more quickly. Through collaboration among federal, state, and local partners, the center strengthens the ability of law enforcement agencies across Northeast Ohio to disrupt violent criminal activity and reduce gun violence in the region.

The NEOCGIC is a partnership between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and a large number of partner-agency law enforcement and intelligence units.

What the NEOCGIC Does

The NEOCGIC supports law enforcement investigations involving firearm-related crimes by combining forensic technology, intelligence analysis, and multi-agency collaboration. The center helps investigators rapidly identify connections between shootings, develop investigative leads, and hold violent offenders accountable.

Key capabilities include:

Ballistic Evidence Analysis

Using advanced ballistic technology, investigators can compare shell casings recovered from crime scenes to determine whether the same firearm was used in multiple incidents.

Firearm Tracing

Crime guns recovered by law enforcement can be traced to identify their origin and distribution history, helping investigators uncover trafficking patterns and identify individuals responsible for illegally supplying firearms.

Intelligence and Investigative Support

Analysts review shooting incidents, forensic evidence, and investigative information to identify patterns, connect related cases, and support investigators with actionable intelligence.

Regional Collaboration

The NEOCGIC brings together federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to share information.
